Finally I am a sniper

I have resisted joining a service since the cards I have been collecting were mainly snipe free. Not anymore! What service do most of you use?

I don't use a snipe service but have considered it. Simple question - if two people go up against each other using a snipe service, doesn't it then become luck who get's the last bid in? Or are some programs better than others?

Mike,
Snipe services let you set how many seconds left in the auction before it places your bid. Technically though, it doesn't matter in the least which snipe is placed first as long as nobody has a chance to look at your bid and react to it. If your bid is for $500 with 7 seconds to go and somebody else's snipe is set for $400 with 5 seconds to go, you'll still win the auction for $404 (assuming both snipes are higher than the current bid). Same result if the two times are switched.

to switch over to Justsnipe (currently using AuctionSniper .25 cent per win).
My balance for the month is a tad bit over $12.00. $5 for unlimited snipes per
month sounds pretty good right now. Too addicting.

You forgot the Astra.
Using a snipe service allows you to snipe when you cannot be at your computer or should your computer or service go down your snipe will still get in.

I would imagine the snipe that was set to go first would win. If both have the same set time of lets say 5 seconds, I have no idea!

<< <i>Can someone tell me the advantage of a snipe service over just sniping myself? I win countlesss auctions on Ebay by just counting down and bidding. My sucess to failure rate is unreal. >>
If you have unlimited free time and patience, that's great, but this is what can happen when you try to snipe manually. It has happened to all of us.
jayhawke - if memory serves, the Astra was Pontiac-branded Vega. Same car, different trim.
One argument to not snipe manually is network congestion, or slow response times by the Ebay server (causing your bids to be entered a second too late). Both have happened to me in the old days pre-snipe.

<< <i>Can someone tell me the advantage of a snipe service over just sniping myself? >>
Here's the advantage:
I was watching a card for a week and knew the time would be up during my usual email/ebay time - so I didn't snipe it.
Well, I remember and log in: 2 mins left. Cool.
So I place me bid, and Ebay decides to be slow as snot (yes I'm losing dialup - cant justify anything else). By the time the confirm screen comes up, I figure I've got 35 seconds left.
I'm starting to panic here, check the connection and find that something is downloading (Windows XP update probably).
I'm waiting and waiting for the bid to go through. Time passes according to my watch. Did my bid go through?
No. Two minutes later I get the auction over screen.
Needless to say I wasn't happy - and won't count on sniping myself ever again.
Oh, and my bid would have beaten the winning bid by 15%...

Actually I never over pay, I go by market value or a little under. I guess I have good timing or something.

I also have dialup, which totally sucks in the auction world, but until I upgrade and even after, JustSnipe will be my bidding weapon of choice.

PS) forgot to mention Corvair, Rambler, Citation, and the Greenbrier van in previous post (although I like the Corvairs and once drove a Scrambler Rambler with the 390 and crossram setup)
However I do lose auctions because I wait for that last 5 seconds and then DOH! ebay's asking me for my login and password.. AAAAAHHH I didn't get the bid through in time! Or I watch the auction for a week and watch the auction in the dieing hours.. and watch the auction in the dieing seconds and then I quickly open the CU message boards and then go back to the auction to find that it has ended..
Too many times those things have happend to me which is why I use esnipe to bid my maximum bid for me.

They give you the first month of premium service for free, unlimited bits, then it's 5 bucks a month like justsnipe.
The interface is a bit rough around the edges, but it works well.
Does justsnipe have a category feature where you can specify that you only want to win one item in a group you create? Or a spending limit? That's a huge reason why I use auctionraptor, couldn't live without that.
