Interesting, I like the reverse better though. The obverse almost looks like sometime in the distant past a single drop of oil hit the coin and later evaporated.

Yes. Dimitri didn't seem to hold this set (in an NGC multislab) in the highest regard compared to his other coins but I liked it. Hard to shoot in that huge slab too.

Now for the story on how this happened. This coin came in one of those picture frame holders of a set of George VI coins. Most of the coins were whizzed and crappy but the crown was relatively nice and fully white. All coins were held in placed from the back by tape. To try and remove the sticky crap from the coin I let it soak in olive oil for 2 weeks. Then I used a mild liquid hand soap to clean off the oil. At this point the coin was still white but showed a little lighter on the obverse where the stickyness was. So next I figured I'd let it soak in acetone for a little while to remove anything else left on the coin. Again coin was still white. Then next I wanted to wash it all off again so I left it in a bowl with running water for awhile when I took it out of the bowl I noticed all this wild color. Patted it dry and here it is. I still don't get it.
Olive oil, (extravirgin I hope ;-) ,hand soap, acetone, water (hot , cold?) ,Bill, you created AT without knowing it. Frankly, I'd dip this coin, and you know how much I like toned coins. Or try the procedure all over again.
Phil, you're right, not among my favorites, but your collage is about to change my mind.

Yes ... it's shaped just like one of these.
George has a nice red tan on the 18 Piastres.
Some more of Dimitri's coins?
