What will you do when you ........

I don't know if this question had been asked before, but anyway here is the question.

What will you do with your collections when you are very old? Sell them? Give to your children?

I am 18, so I am not sure what I will do. All I want to do now is to collect more cool coins.

It was asked a couple months ago, I think the consensus was most wanted to be buried with them

  • If I have a child who shows interest in them then I will pass them down. If they dont, to auction they go.

With any luck, the collection will be good enough to go to a museum and be protected forever. If the collection sucks, I'll sell 'em at auction and let the doctors have their fun.

  • I'm going to melt down all my silver in case any warewolves come knockin'. Then I'm gonna' dump all my cents down the wishing well. That is, if my son is not interested in numismatics. Otherwise, he'll get everything.
  • By then I will have sold or given away all the decent stuff and what will be left will be prized examples of what not to collect.

I can't believe a lot of people would want their coins buried with them.... what about future generations of numismatists???

    SPF15 will prevent toning.

  • I will spend them at face value.

Speaking of going down with your coins, saw Troy the other night, great epic flick, but coudn't forget all those coins that went up in the funeral pyres

If he says 40, I'm going to hit him with my cane and throw a bottle of Geritol at his head.

  • I have no idea. heh. I've got a bunch of coins, baseball cards, comic books, and other various things that I collected while growing up. (Heck, I'm only 24 so technically I'm still growing up). I generally tend to keep to myself, so I don't envision having offspring in my future. So chances are, the government will wind up getting whatever I own, otherwise it may be left to some nice person I get to know as I grow old and die.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

    A little of both.

I'd say you have a while before you need to worry about that. image

Well I would hope to pass them on to younger family members if there is interest and have them add to it or upgrade it.

I plan to sell mine when I hit 60. but it's easy to think that since that's 29 years away.

I'll pm my vital information so you can give it to your attorney. He'll in turn give it to the Register of Wills in your area. Thank you.image

Calm down Pharmer, that's an error in the movie. The fall of Troy took place before the invention of coins.

    40 isn't old. But 50 is image

I'd like to give them to my son (or grandkids) if he's interested enough. I guess I'll find out in another 50 years or so.
  • We have no children. I'll leave them to my husband, or he predeceases me, to my estate.
    image

    image
  • I will probably sell mine to pay for food because there will be no social security.

Seriously, I have 12.3 grandchildren (will save some coins for them) and 50 is NOT old. I don't have a cane yet, but I do have a mean goat and a mean rooster. image

My thoughts exactly! But I am only 25 right now, so I hopefully have a while to decide yet.
