Home World & Ancient Coins Forum

Newbie to the darkside.

This is only the third or fourth time I've ventured to this corner of the forums.I have never really been enthused by world coins.Don't know why,but they just held no allure for me.
Then Lucybop sent me a nice old Belgian coin, and I got a Cook Islands weenie coin from Marty. Now I find myself buying proof and mint sets from places other than the US of A. image I've already got a proof Cook Islands coin set and a BU Cook Islands coin set.
The next thing I'd like to get is a Proof Mexican Libertad set.(in mint holder)Can smoeone tell me what I'll probably have to pay to get one?Preferably early nineties.I sniped one on ebay for $47.50,which I thought was a little high, and was outsniped.

I hate to jump into collecting anything uninformed.

Thanks in advance.

It's good to see you over here with the civilized folk. image

Get a Krause Standard catalog. You can save a few bucks if you get one that's a year or two old- the newest editions will usually cost around 50 bucks or so, but get a slightly older one and you can save a bunch. The prices don't change that rapidly anyway.

    It's better in the Dark.

  • Welcome aboard. The folks here are "civilized", all you have to do is look at some of the sig lines and you will find yourself "turned from the light", but then again you have a Marty Dollar - your goose is cooked sir!

Different folks, different bait. image Welcome to the Dark Side, Wjd283!! image

Milord is right, a Krause catalog is as necessary here as a Red Book is on the Liteside. There are separate volumes for the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th (incl. 21st) centuries and it's this last one you'll want to start with. Your library may have a copy for you to browse, if you just want to see what possibilities you are getting yourself into! image
