MY FIRST CARD PURCHASED --- 1975

image

In 1975 at the ripe old age of 20 years old, I purchased a VG-EX
(And it now resides in a PSA 4 holder!) 1934 Goudey Hank Greenberg.
I paid the whopping sum of $3. I thought a card that is 40 years old,
and its only $3???? Man! This MUST be a RIP! That taught me when
I found out I paid about $2 too much that I needed to do some
research! Here it is 29 years later and I STILL HAVE THE CARD and
many of my original Kaline cards that I have purchased through the
years! A VERY GOOD MEMORY FOR ME! The neatest thing I ever
bought at a SHOW was a lot of 30+ MINT 1967 Kalines at $3.50
per card. I remember the guy said ..." you will never see as good
a group of these in your lifetime!" In some ways he was correct!
These cards were all centered and look like they just came out of
a pack! This was sometime in the early 80's when I purchased!
A great memory again! Have a good evening all!

1977 for me. Unfortunately the only card I remember getting in the pack was Dave Cowens. It wouldn't be until 1979 that I got the coveted Roc Carew. My first "big" purchase was in the early eighties, my dad told me I should go ahead and spend the $4 on a '60 Clemente.
  • Nice story Kaline.
