Argh!

I HATE when this happens.

I'm seven cards short of going 100% on 1953 Topps. One of the cards, a very tough hi# common, was on Ebay today. I've been watching it all week.

I checked it this morning with a few hours left to go. Checked it again at lunch with just over an hour left to go.

Then, I forgot all about it. Missed the auction completely.

It sold for like $25.

I HATE when I do that.

Yeah. Happens to me a lot too. It's worse than being sniped. You've nobody to blame but yourself when this happens.
  • yup...we've all been there done that

  • I use esnipe for every auction even when I am watching it tick down because something might happen and you lose connection, your clock is off, ect (along with fact you get charged for every auction if you use esnipe or not so might as well) The 1% they charge (a little less if you buy large amounts of thier points at once) is more than worth it with time and frustration it saves

yup, been there as well....I try to take the spiritual high road when I'm on the phone with a customer and I'm watching the clock tick past hammer time: It just wasn't meant to be.

That being said, it's just wrong....

  • Been there as well...

That is also when it seems like the best prices for that given item are. I could watch 10 auctions go by and think that is more than I want to pay, the one I miss is the one when I would have dropped the hammer.
  • Has happened to me way too many times. I can't get ebay at work due to network blocking it. That's part of why I got into sniping, otherwise I miss anything during work hours. Bob
  • That stuff will drive you crazy! I have done that several times over the years!

Forgetting all about it is one thing, but having a listing right in front of you with under one minute left, but then getting distracted by a cool CU post and missing the bid, is really lame.

  • I'm STILL frustrated. I've never seen this card come up by iteslf in decent condition - it's always either a beater, or it's part of a lot of beaters. Here it is, all by itself, raw but in nice shape - I'm all over it for a week, and then BANG. Just forgot.

I was prepared to go as high as $75-80 for this card. It went for $25. Grrr.

What card is it that you're looking for?

  • A couple years ago, I was watching a great lot of '00 Topps Chrome refractors, I think it was 50 or so, and I needed most of them. Well the time comes to snipe, and my cable (modem) goes out! They wound up selling for less than I would have paid.image

Yep, I've done the same thing too. After about the 5th time, I then signed up for esnipe and have been bidding that way ever since.
  • Yea, you should either use the esnipe, or simply put in your max bid (oh the horror!! image ) If it were one of my last ones in the set I needed, I would pay whatever it took. You may end up causing yourself a few hundred dollars worth of anguishalone and you still don't have the card.

What I think you should do is email the winner and offer him double what he paid. He may say screw it I doubled my money and let you have it. Or he may say no. then offer triple. If he refuses, then you can rest comfortably knowing atleast you tried. the price was a mere fraction what you were willing to pay, so try this and let us know how it goes!

Been there, done this as well. A few times I knew a card I needed was on Ebay, and went to check it out that evening - only to find out it had ended the evening before. image

  • The card in question was Willie Miranda.

    Grrr again.

Hey GoudeyGold - are you a new member of the forum or, umm, a returning member?

Ouch, somehow that hurts worse than an Ebay hiccup or something. Much better to blame fate, or God, or network lag than yourself!

Is this your card? If so, I bet a dealer that reads these boards can probably help you come up with one. The card was described as in EX condition. I think I paid around $150 for a NM PSA 7 Miranda so I dont think your desired price range is unrealistic for the card. It is a tough card...but not impossible.

    Here's 2 decent leads:

  • Alan:

That's awesome. Thank you for the leads. I may wind up just buying all 7 of the cards I need, to get this monkey off my back.

    Thank you!

I put in a snipe as soon as I see the card I want. If it is something I really really want I put in snipes with 2 services, just in case.
