Schoolgirl pattern dollar ,, by billzach

this is my latest carving based on the 1879 schoolgirl pattern dollar and also carved on a 1879 morgan , i usually tone each coin different and gave this one a aged out, carried in pocket look... i may carve one more schoolgirl pattern dollar later this year or this may be it until next year or later......

You using a dremmel or other tools??? Obviously you have great skills at metal shaping, just wondering what type of tools you are using.

Anyway to update the girl to make it look like a woman. I always noticed that Morgans look very manly and not feminine.

the original schoolgirl pattern dollar has 13 beads in necklace, so i measured space on neck to get 13 beads on necklace...

it takes about 10 to 12 hours to carve a pattern dollar....i,ve been carving over 10 years

Do you use a laser? On a separate thread there is an inquiry about use of laser technology for coin alteration.

i,ve had quite a few members to ask about what kind of tools i use to carve coins, i use hand tools..i don,t use a laser, press, lathe etc..just hand gravers and a microscope ....if you look at my carvings, each will be somewhat different even if they are the same subject..also it takes about 10 to 12 hours to carve a detailed carving...
