.....for about $3500 if memory serves. image Hey, I hope they start regularly bringing in excess of $10,000+.

  • Gorgeous.

I'm not gemmed up on grading these, but is it just a slight weak strike or a hint or wear? The hair (to the left of the ear and going upwards to meet the band). Seems a been weak there.

    I still think it's a lovely coin, but i would say MS64, i'd say AU59.5

Firstly, the AHM is a horrible image, as they all are. If I were selling largely PCGS graded gear in MS64 or higher, I'd at least offer prospective buyers a decent image of the coin. Secondly, AHM's image would appear to be a scan, not a digital camera pic. As Wybrit's "Reimage" series has shown, scans render a decent enough coin "flat and doughy" (my words image) looking.

P.S. I could care less what anyone paid or sells a coin for in the marketplace. I know of a much more luscious gold sov. which more than doubled in price after the denizens of "Slabovia" declared it to be 1.5 points nicer than it was......it tweren't "that" nice, and tha wee mousie still seeks big gold!! image Sadly, that episode will necessitate more toil I'm afraid..... image

    Cheers, Mac

Mac, I know NEN had a PCGS MS63 Vicky Crown that sold recently (I believe it was $3850. list), not sure if that is the one you're thinking of. Not long ago David Neita told me he images the GB coins for AHM using a Sony digital camera. That was after I'd inserted foot in mouth by mentioning the images were not as nice as the coins I've seen. image

As for your coin, rest assured there is not enough space here for the beating hearts I would post. And I have similar rosy sentiments for NEN's 1831 Crown (but alas there are a couple of small spots). image
