Dad Tried a New Dealer By Us

the guy is abotu 5 minutes from me and is 98% stamps and 2% coins. i never been there but from the looks i figured where you might find a coin cheap and find out its worth alot more. cause he doesnt deal much in them.

anyway, dad got a 1902 AU morgan from the guy AU 50 to 55 id say. and he paid $40. testing the waters of how friendly he is and knowing what he paid im forced to think maybe he over charges on coins.i figure this should ahve been maybe 30 on the high end.

  • Seems most places that don't deal much in coins such as antique dealers over charge. I saw a common 1941-74 Lincoln cent collection going for $125.00 in good to extra fine at an antique store. I am really surprized you found a stamp shop though. Many dealers won't deal in stamps anymore. The coin dealer by me deals mostly in coins but does stamps too.

here's the deal: does your dad LIKE the coin? does he LIKE the dealer? if the answers are "yes", then i wouldn't fret much over the price. there is value-added in dealing w/ someone who's company you enjoy.

let your dad enjoy his hobby, & not let quibbling over a few bucks get in the way of that enjoyment
