Error dime? Pics added

I came across a dime in my change that I think might be an error but I am not sure. It has a plain edge instead of reeded. It has been through the upsetting mill.

I dont have a caliper or weight to measure, but when I compare it with a regular dime it seems to be roughly the same diameter and thickness.

And while it is circulated, the details are not that sharp as they should be for its condition, almost as if the stiking pressure were reduced when it was minted.

Ideas?

Sounds like a Die trial ,no reeding is due to lack of pressure which wasn't enough to push the planchet
metal into the reeding of the collar..A picture would help.

Not a die trial. I think it is just well circulated.

    I'll second that.

  • I recently found a 1997-D dime with the same thing... No reeding at all and the rim is very thin around the coin. It's definitely not a case of over-circulation, as the wear on the coin's faces are not significantly advanced. Dog 97, if you are still out there, this dime is available if you want it.
