Related to a recent thread... there are a number of ICG PR70 Washington Quarters up for auction at H

Do you suppose ICG's definition of a "PR70" is that there are no imperfections visible with the naked eye? Maybe the other services use a glass to look for marks? I figure that ICG either ignores marks on their PR70 coins (I doubt it), or the other services just look more closely.

Does anyone know what the difference is in philosophy/ grading procedures of the major grading services when it comes to awarding a 70 grade? Who's standards are most correct or reasonable in your opinion?

  • if they are able to squirel one non-70 through every few hours as a 70, they are not only giving the collector wrong info but this hows their grading the reason for even grading the coins. i've asked several times how they can guarantee the # of 70's they need to churn out to meet the sponsors guarantee. bet there are numerous mistakes. if grading remains tight, ICG says, they always meet their 70 goal. Wonder how they do it???. You never see PCGS/NGC promise Pop Tops!!!! Is ICG the top dog in the world in giving out grades in trade for marketing dollars.
PCGS sets under The Thomas Collections. Modern Commemoratives @ NGC under "One Coin at a Time". USMC Active 1966 thru 1970" The real War.
