Eisenhower Stash

Went to Wells Fargo today to cash a check. I saw a few Ikes sitting on a coin tray and asked if I could have those as part of my cash, then the cashier said that she had $120 worth. I was pretty stoked, so I got $31 worth (all I had money for at the time). But I need to get some more and keep looking for 1972 T2 and Peg-legs.

The 31 that I had, there were no peg legs and there was one 1972P T1 and one 1972P T3. As well, I found 3 1976Ds that could go at least MS63 or MS64.

Do people find Ike stashes at banks like this very often or no?

Do common date AU Ikes have any value above face?

  • Most really nice Ikes generally come from mint sets - except for 1971 and 72's of course - they weren't included in mint sets. Finding original undisturbed bankrolls of these is almost impossible anymore.
  • I never looked for Ikes. But wasn't there this guy with a few hundred thousand Ikes trying to sell them on eBay a while back? It would probably be worthwhile if one found UNC bags of Ikes, but circ Ikes can't be worth more than face can they?

A few years ago I had accumulated from circulation and visits to bank about 250 to 300 Ikes. Out of the lot, two certified MS66 and about 5 in MS65. The rest wern't the risk of getting them graded so I dumped them for a buck and a half apiece.
  • Banks are often overlooked as coin sources. A month ago I picked up ten rolls bank wrapped Ben Franklins at face. Since then I have been buying $100 in coins a paycheck and going through the rolls. The finds have been suprising, everything that I have no use for I deposit in my savings account so I can do it again two weeks later. image

  • Hello all,

Circ Ikes bring $2-$7 at shops & shows in my neck of the woods, people think they're rare (even though you can get them from Bank of America).

I really like Ikes... or is it "I like Ike"? image

Pretty cool find. I'm never lucky with coin finds at the bank!

I never found anything at our bank and then I found out the manager collects coins and she looked through the tellers trays each morning and took what she wanted. image
