72-P TYPE II IKE's

Got my batch of 72-P Type II's back from the factory.

Have virtually all grades available from AU55 to MS65. Plenty of nice 63's/62's.

With all the Type 2s being slabbed, I am glad I sold mine last month. Out of all the ones I had, I only kept one slabbed one. Have three raw ones I am putting on eBay. image

    Congratulations on the MS65 grades.

Do you guys think it's time to sell out of these? There's 249 slabbed in all grades; do you think they will continue to rise in price, or no?

    Buy? Sell? or Hold?

I really don't know if it is time to sell or not. I just got nervous about it, so I sold mine except my MS64.

I've been considering doing the same thing for awhile now...Keep my 64 in my registry set, and move the rest to make room for some other coin interests I have, image

If I decide to sell; rest assured these will certainly rise in value - right AFTER I've sold emimage It happens every timeimage

These are still very rare. Believe it or not, I've been doing Ikes for 20 years, and I've never found (cherry picked) a Type II. I've bought and sold many.

Start looking, and I think you'll see that the rise in Pops is due to the fact that PCGS now recognizes the variety than to the fact that they are getting more populous.

This is a really really tough coin in MS64+++. Those value will only continue to rise.

I've tried to buy one of the three 66's for over $13,000 (yes $13,000) and I can't buy one. That should tell you something!

I should say everything I have sold has been MS63 and lower. My MS64 was graded before attribution, but right now, I do not have the need for attribution-at least until I sell it, which would likely be years and years from now. I only paid $16.00 for it abot 2.5 years ago. Paid $10.00 to slab it, so they would have to drop pretty dramatically for me to lose on it. Even then, I still like it. image

Also, I will continue to buy them when the prices are right. image I like cheap, i.e. cherry pick-unless I am sure it is a winner, then I will pay more. imageimage

So, you guy believe that the value lies in 64 and above? I have grades from AU to 63 - maybe I should start Ebaying them...Maybe some more experts can sound off with some opinions....image

I like the new eBay thing where you can see the number of people who are watching a particular auction. It seems
that no matter what kind of "Mix" of different coins I have up for auction, the 72-P Type 2 Ike ALWAYS draws the most
    watchers. Maybe it's getting popular!o)
The bidding has been active too, with PCGS 62's going for $165-$185 and the last PCGS 63 was just
over $210. The 64's are where this Type 2 takes a BIG hike...$400-$500+ depending on the coin. The 65's and up are
    hardly ever seen....

In years past, I would find one Type 2 in about every 10 rolls.
Last year, that went up significantly,...maybe one in every 15 rolls.
'Didn't make above a 63 on ANY of them!

I would recommend holding anything 64 and above. They are just too darned hard to find.image

image I Have searched every coin show that I attend, dealer stock, ebay and teletrade for the last 5 years for this coin.
I used to find a Type # 2 two thousand to 2500 coins. This has changed dramatically in the last 2 years. It's still possible to find circulated coins, but they are becoming more, and more difficult.
Mint state coins are almost impossible !!! I will continue to BUY ALL MINT STATE coins that I find !!!
Personally, I WILL NOT sell my mint state examples of this coin.
From my obversations, I have found that only ONE DIE was used to produce this coin.
What that means to me, is that the majority of coins certified in the future will be circulated !!
Take a look at the 3 legged buffalo pops to get a picture of how this coin will grade out in the future !!!

I have a question for all you IKE experts. I was wondering what exactly a type II looks like compared to a type I. I was wondering if anyone had a side-by-side comparison. The type II is just the lettering difference on the back right?

Out of the original approximate 100,000 struck how many do you think are left is MSor even high AU condition.
I would hold on to everyone I could get, the're almost guarantied to increase in value. Look at how much the
value has changed since PCGS attributed them.

I would say a much smaller portion survived in AU to UNC. I would say hang onto everyone now, too. I sold my big bunch of them because I had allot tied up in them and I did not want to lose my shirt. Probably would never happen though. If I had it to do over, I would not sell them. At least I still have my MS64.

I have two on eBay ending this Sunday, but they are not certified.

I was thinking the same thing. I'll hold on to these for several more years and see where they go...They'll either flop, go crazy, or do nothing...
