1911 George V Sovereign - Question answered + soveriegn link

Hi,

So I am cleaning up yesterday and find this:

Gold sovereign but how could I determine where minted? I can see no mintmark (there is a small B.P. on the reverse to right of date which I assume is Benedetto Pistrucci). Is no mintmark London? Grade and value? (I make it fine).

Thanks for any help.

Regards,
-Brian

In anything less than UNC, the coin is worth bullion value. It looks better than fine, at least gVF and probably EF (can't tell on the reverse). Nice coin.

Look directly above the date, between the "9"and "1" for the mintmark. I can't make any out in your picture. If there is no mintmark, you correctly surmised that it is London.

  • Hi,

Thanks very much. Even with a 10x loupe I see nothing above the date so I London it is.

Googled George V sovereign and came up with:

    Gold Sovereign Link

which contains a lot of information (at least to a neophyte like myself).

    Appreciate the assistance.
