SMS (Special Mint Set) coins and regular business strike coins?

The reason I'm asking is because in the CU price guide the regular business strike dime, quarter and half dollar coins (non Cam-DCam) are priced higher than the SMS set dime, quarter and half dollar coins (non Cam-DCam) in the corresponding grades.

So, if you cracked a nice MS66 coin out of a SMS set and sent it in as a regular business strike, how would the TPGS know the difference?

You are striking at a long bone of contention ... many collectors will tell you that superior MS 1965-67 coins are invariably graded as SMS.

Just use the "looks good" rule. If it looks good, regardless of what it actually is, it goes in an SMS holder. Doesn't matter what you put on the submission form as they just ignore it.
