<< <i>I don't know if Jade's yanking your chain but mine happened. You guys are way more pissed than I am. I would like to have owned the coin at my bid (plus juice) but one thing I know is there is no shortage of coins I'd like to buy, and I did get the other for a discount.
Jim, it really happened to me. I stated that I was not happy about the problem, but I understood that mistakes can happen. They are sending me a $25 certificate for future purchases. Not too bad, but I would have made much more on the coin that I got at a GREAT price.

are you boyz serious??? the point is not whether you got this or that discount, or that your not really pissed, or blah blah blah! the point is that a precedent has now been set that this un-named auction co. can at their own whim RETRACT YOUR WINNINGS!
If the auction company did not have the right to sell the coin, they cannot pass title to you even after going through the motions of the auction. It may have looked like a sale, but it really wasn't.
But, if the auction company wanted to do the right thing for all concerned, they might have offered to buy the coin back, with an appropriate profit. If the compensation they offered represents what would otherwise be an appropriate profit, then maybe they are trying to do the right thing.

DorkCarlos, I "get it", but somethings in life are not worth losing sleep over. Sure I could have made a big stink about this and probably even taken ownership of the coin. But how much time would I have to invest in such an ordeal? They know that they got a black eye on this one and they offered a small parting gift to soften the blow. The bigger the company, the less they care about customer satisfaction. At least that has been my observation while going through this life.
The real question is why did agentjim get a $75 parting gift and I only got a $25 gift and a kiss on the mouth?????
If they had discovered this "error" AFTER you had received the coin would either of you have returned it or would you have told them tough chit. I wonder if both coins were withdrawn by the same consignor.

Yes, I would have returned it. Sometimes mistakes happen. Once we had an error in our inventory list and we sold a coin for a fraction of the actual cost. We informed the buyer and paid a hefty reward ($300) for negating the deal. It's all about karma.

your still missing the point. so far, we know of 2 screwed customers. how many more are there? why is this so hush-hush??? plus, if YOU screwed up, would the un-name co. let YOU off the hook??? say you wanted to return a coin from their signature sale, because the coin was worse than described, would they now return the favor & allow you a return???
don't think so....
the LEAST they could do would be to give an honest explanation as to what the he11 happened to your coin!
Got home last night, checked my email, and THREE from Heritage. I won three lots in Monday's Bullet sale, put many hours in researching appropriate prices, figuring out my bids, tracking them, before the sale, sitting at the computer to when the hammer fell, just to be sure. That time is worth something, the emotional investment is too.
They were just invoice notices, but a diffecrent header, so of course I feared the worst initially. What happened to you guys. I didn't need that feeling.
The precedent is what concerned me yesterday. And the need for us all to be forewarned now that it has happened. Who, why, what. Come to think of what, I'm curious what the coins were, certainly not generic white ms63 morgans, but that is irrelevant to the larger points.

This happens at all auction sites, it has happened to me twice in the last year, both times because the reserve was incorrect--------------------------BigE
