Is This a Two Part Scam on eBay??

Back on December 14th I purchased a coin on eBay from a buyer that turned out to be a scam artist. After several attempts to reach the seller to let them know that the coin I received was not the one in the picture but a cleaned and polished piece of junk.

I contacted eBay , Square Trade and PayPal to let them know of the situation and to make a long story short got my money back (short of moderator cost) and felt it was as settled as I was going to get and would never see the other $20. (So be it…. chalk it up to a lesson learned)

Surfing eBay this morning I noticed a Bust Half very similar to the one I thought I was purchasing last month and low and behold SAME PICTURES? as the one from the scammer!!!

This first link is to the coin I purchased, please check out the picks:
1st Link

This is the link that I had seen the other Bust Half on eBay:
2nd Link

Am I missing something here or are these the same pictures of the same coin???

I sent the seller an e-mail inquiring about the pictures and to ask if this was indeed the coin listed on eBay. Also look at the other Bust Halves listed on the site

Note: all the pictures of the BH’s are shot at an angle all but the one I questioned)

Is this an eBay scam that always goes on????? If I am missing something please someone enlighten me.

I have not received any response yet! Anyone know this seller and I am open to suggestions on what to do and how to approach it?
Bill.

I would suspect the 1st link seller stole the images from somewhere (was the coin listed before on e-bay or a web site?).

I don't see a negative feedback from you for the seller....
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • It's definitely the same coin.Someone could have stole someones pic,or,like you suggested,it could be two scammers in cahoots.

Either way, the coin looks heavily cleaned, even from the images.

I did not leave it yet as I am waiting for the seller to ask for the coin to be returned where I will send it when I get my $20 plus shipping. I would think it was stolen from the 2nd leister but I got no response from the e-mail and all the other images on the listed BH's are at an angle which leads me to believe something stinks!

  • First off, you probably got the coin in the picture, beacuse from the photo it appears to be a polished piece of junk. image

As far as the same picture showing up, the seller might own both IDs, who knows. The seller in the second link is a real crapster -- a few months ago he was selling a tooled Mecury dime (an XF coin with details tooled in and sold as UNC) and I reported it to Ebay. Ebay did not do a damn thing about it (big surprise!)

That is about what I would expect from eBay. When I reported the first time the only one that responded was Square Deal........nothing from eBay or PayPal.

  • Isn't Vacaville where coin 1 is located also where the low security Ca. State prison is? Yes, looks like the same POS. Ebay is just like Coin World. The sellers stay in good standing by offering a reasonable and full refund. As long as 75% of the buyers don't know coins, or are too lazy to return, they make a nice profit selling cracked out problem coins. This junk brings a suprisingly high bid amount at Heritage IMHO, because these guys are actually in competition for the problem coins they will later crack out and sell on Ebay. There's nothing you can do.
