A new Ken Burns film, Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson, started running last night on PBS. It's 2 parts, 2 hours. Last night covered up to his big title fight against Jim Jeffries. Tonight moves onto the aftermath of his victory, where all sorts of hell break lose. Quality stuff as you'd expect from Burns.

Loves me some shiny!
Didn't Ken create the Baseball History documentary also?
Unforgivable Blackness is definitely a show for the DVD collection.

The Baseball series - all nine "innings" of it - is one of the most amazing pieces of filmmaking I've ever seen. But his masterpiece is the "Jazz" series. Absolutely tremendous. I actually teared up during the segment when Louis Armstrong died - and I knew he was dead already.
Several people I know who previously disliked jazz became fans after seeing Burns' film.
I hadn't heard about Unforgiveable Blackness, but you can bet I'll be searching for it.
