Did I just get lucky on Teletrade tonight ??

Picked up this ICG 1970-S PR69 DCAM Washington Quarter that actually looks good for the grade. Heck if I can cross-grade it even to a PCGS PR68 DCAM (it does look DCAM) I made out. I'll have to look at in hand, but looks good so far, no?

I almost couldn't believe I won this auction for $9, plus $5 juice and $4 shipping for a total of $18. Did I do OK image

The last PCGS PR69 DCAM sold for over $850 a couple of days ago at FUN -- I know, I got sniped with 4 seconds and beat by $20 -- uuurggh!! Maybe this coin will make me whole image

You can't grade proofs from images, and ICG is notorious for overgrading moderns... you'll be lucky if it's a 68, and if it's a DCAM

To estimate your PCGS grade, subtract 2 and lower it one designation level

This is true too. You would prob get a 67, but its worth a shot right, you might get lucky. You could also crack it and send it is too.

You think I should crack it out or should I send in holder with no min grade??

I think when they receive crosses with no min grade don't they automatically crack it prior to going to grading...this way I won't accidently damage the coin?

Don't know about the actual grade but the cameo itself looks OK on the obverse, but extremely weak on the reverse. Maybe even too weak for cam at PCGS!
  • No Flippin comment !

    Correction.

    Cross over it wont CAM

    Crack Out,it wont CAM

    The reverse is too weak.

Sorry, but if the image is an accurate represention, the coin is not worth the cost of the submission fee. The reverse may not even be cameo.

I think you guys are being too critical...it's not stellar but it's not terrible.

Here's a fine example of a PCGS PR68 DCAM: Link to coin -- I'd accidently spend this one if it wasn't in a holder image

Oh, and here's another lovely PCGS PR69 DCAM: Link to coin imageimage

    ....and another: Link to coin

There are nice ones out there...like the one I just lost: Link to coin -- but most of the ones I've seen have been hideous.

Unfortunately, Heritage has some of the worst images available on most of their coins--and these proofs show it... while the first one looks like it might have hazed in the holder, the others just look like typical Heritage photos.

Teletrade does a good job showing frost... and the reverse of this coin don't have it. If it CAMs, you'll be lucky... DCAM is completely out of the question.

  • Save the money, its no CAM.

I am as optimistic as anybody,it's not a CAM

OK -- this one will just go in to my 4.5 year old daughter's box image

But if she winds up resubmitting it 15 years from now and it comes in nice, I'll come and find you all...and give you H*&#L image

Kidding...thanks for the honesty. I should've saved the $20 bucks for a few drinks I'm about to go have image

I've been bugging Marty to make a PCGS PR69 DCAM for me but I think he's too busy across the street image

I agree with the prevailing opinion that the coin will not dcam at PCGS. I do not think it will even cam.

I have a half a box or so of PCGS 1970 & 71 quarters where they didn't make dcam. Some of those didn't even make cam. I keep them for reference for the next time I think I have scored a dcam clad quarter from '68 to '72.

Another example of overgraded ICG material - I have seen it often. Cut you losses and set the coin aside. Maybe one of the ICG defenders will take it off your hands for a handsome profit!

By the way, I got lucky on Teletrade last night - I didn't win anything this time. My last coin was so horrible, I send a nasty gram with my return. The coin didn't even look like the picture!!

  • I've given up on trying to get steals from ICG slabs. Last time I bought 5 ICG PR70 DCAM moderns from TT and cracked them out. Sent them in to PCGS and all five came back PR68CAMs. Lesson learned the hard way, but I won't forget it!

That's par for the course with ICG.
