Please help with a Franklin question, Thanks!

I have been watching this one as a possible candidate for my US Type set. Link I have no idea what the current market value on a coin like this is, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Please post or pm anything that may help. Thanks!image

Seems a bit high to me.
The pops are about the same as the 55 68CA and they are running in the 400-500 range.
I'm not sure what the trends are though, and you can't go by the PCGS Price guide as it is a total joke.

    Edited for spelling...
  • Thanks Ernie, I thought this was on the high side, but wasn't sure. I think his use of the 69dcam pop and price is leading people to think that they're bidding on a 69dcam!

You can't compare a Deep Cameo coin to a Cameo coin when determining value. The DCAM is substantially more desirable even when the pops are similar. Teletrade pricing history indicates the $1500 to $1600 range.

The most recent sale was 12 days ago at $1650 plus juice ($1732.50).

Russ is correct...I have just finished checking the trends myself. Sorry if I misled you.image
  • Thanks Russ, that's a good picture teletrade has on their site. It's hard to tell from the one listed on feebay whether it has clear fields or not.

If you are looking for a dcam Franklin for a type set, there are other dates that have great die pairs for much less money. The ones that come to mind are the '62 and '63. If you want one in the '50's, the '56 has some of the finest die sets in the whole series, not to mention the highest pops in 68 and 69dcam.

Nothing wrong with getting the '57 - looks like it might be a nice coin - but the pics leave something to be desired.

Cameonut brings up a good point. If it's a type set coin, there are better alternatives from a cost standpoint. A 1956 Type 2 in PR68DCAM would be in the $600 range and some of them are just flat spectacular in frost and contrast.

I don't think that price is out of line at all, however, for a type set I recommend a pr67dcam, instead of a pr68dcam.....

    Save the money.......

I sold a 57 pr67dcam well well below what that coin is going for and, I couldn't find hairlines or spotting on my coin, I was dumbfounded by the pr67 grade.....

Russ you hit it pretty close!

I'm trying to stay with lower pop's, semi keys, nice eye appeal, things like that for the type set. I don't really care what the final grade is, just that they are nice coins. Maybe I'll look for a nice MS66FBL rainbow toner.image

Thanks to everyone for their input, anything past about 1940 (except roosies!) I'm at a loss about.

  • Hi -i bought the franklin from rosie for $750. 1957 in 67 d-cam. The two pops are just about the same about 50 in each pr67 and pop68 in deep cameo for the 1957 . The coin i bought from rosie is a very nice coin for a 1957 but beware the 1957 is a very hard year for deep cameo cotrast they just were never very similar from front to back so you want a nice even frost on both sides if you pay the big bucks for a 1957 or you will lose when it comes time to sell.I have a really nice 1960 in 68 d-cam if that will still fit what your looking for has a pop of 67 with 5 graded 69 dcam .Would need about 800. for the 1960 . THANKS MIKE (the delivery set)
  • who is rosie??

  • Sorry - i mean lucy MIKE (the delivery set)
  • For type, I think yer best value is to find a CAM graded Frankie with a DCAM obverse. You can find for a very small premium over a regular CAM.

Excellent advice! Unless you want a top registry set, I would do this. They are a goos bargain with tons of eye appeal. I even have a few stashed away.
