What would a good stamp book be to look up a collection?

My uncle's father died and my uncle wants to look up some basic info on stamps. In coins there's the WORLD COIN book by Krause and the US coin book by yeoman, what is the stamp equivilant?

A set of the Scott catalogs. Some libraries might have them or stamps shops will sell older volumes at a discount.

I use a Brookman catalog to look up stamps for the US, it's cheaper than the Scott's catalogs which I have used in the past.
For foregin stamps Scott's is really the best choice.
