Find the engraver's initials

Most quarter rupees have the engraver's initials at the "truncation." Exactly where would this be?

  • It's the bottom of the neck, so to speak. I can see them there very faintly on the widest part where the light is reflected on the truncation to the left of the N.

Hmm... I looked there with a 16x loupe and still can't make out the "WW" that may be there.

Perhaps it's a KM 454.1 with no initials. image

I agree with Brad, "truncation" means cut-off and the bust is the only object on either the obverse or reverse that is truncated.

  • Hi,
Looks like at least one W where you would expect it!

I visted Paul and Bente Withers last week. (GALATA Coins)
They collect Indian - we were busy with other things, so I only saw a couple of trays of fractional rupees.

They just about have it all.

Next time I visit they have promised to show me their Indian SOHO proofs!

If you need a pretty definitive opinion, try mailing them pic.

    Nice coin
