how long to wait before filing non-payment complaint?

How long do most people typical wait before filing a non-payment complaint? I am just curious, as I sold a coin on an auction, and emailed the buyer immediately. It has only been 3 days, and I will wait another week at least, with follow-up emails.
But the reason I am wondering, is looking at the buyers feedback, they have feedback posted from January 2002 to February 2002 only. They haven't won anything online since Feb. 2002. So it has been alsmot 3 years since. That makes me suspicious, especially since I haven't had a reply to my email in the first 3 days.
Is 10 days enough time?

Personally, I go 7 days. If I have heard nothing then I file a NPB. Actually, it goes out as a payment reminder. That will usually get a reaction. If not, then a NPB goes in after 7 days or whatever that wait time is.
I don't require that I have the payment right away, just that you contact me so I know that we are on the same page.

I do the same as thebeav but I go 10 days which I think is pretty generous.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I have never had anyone not respond to emails after 7 days.
Also make sure your spam filters are set so you can receive a response.

First of all, the buyer is granted three business days to contact you. Given the weekend and today being a holiday, I doubt that even one full business day has passed.
That said, when confronted with a non-responding buyer, I send a reminder after one week, and then a NPB after two. If there is still no contact, I go get my FVFs back 10 days after the NPB (eBay sets this time), and then neg him sometime beyond that.
