Rare or junk change? - Unreeded Edge 1985 Kennedy

I found a Kennedy 1985-P that does not have a reeded edge. It is smooth as silk. Not worn. Just not reeded.

Is this worth more than 50c??

Have you compared the diameter to a reeded one? Might be a post-mint alteration.

I see the point. With the naked eye, the coin is smooth. Closer examination reveals that reeding may well have been there. Someone took care in removing the reeding.

Most likely a slot machine did it. I've seen a number of them in rolls that were worn completely smooth like you describe.

I have found Kennedy halves like that too in rolls with the edge worn down and always wonder what caused that.
