NEWPS from FUN

NGC 1837 NGC MS66* no stars seated half dime. I actually think it's a 67, I tried, but no cigar this time around. image

Andriod was kind enough to show me several of his coins at FUN, and they are all this spectacular (IMO).

Sorry that one didn't make a 67, but it is still indeed an awesome coin! And I know that 1890 looks better in person!

Thanks for posting. Assume those were from the floor as opposed to auction wins? Nice momentos to remember a fun week at FUN.

That 1837 half dime looks very choice for the grade. Whether it ever makes the MS67 grade is not the whole story. Coins like that sell for big premiums regardless. I recently passed on an NGC MS67 1837 no stars half dime that had secondary toning. It just didn't have that pizzaz. It had some marks too. My own feeling was that it was a 66+ and that was that. It took the owner a while to sell it too. Someone eventually bellied up. Yours on the other hand would fly out the door as a 66* and multiples of blue sheet bid for sure. NGC has given out the grade of 67 too easily in the past on this type coin.

Yes, I bought them on the floor. I was there from Wednesday through Saturday, and I bought all three on Thursday. I was actually quite surprised that it took as much searching as it did to find anything that interested me. The 1/2 dime was purchased from Dean Albanese, whom I have not dealt with before, the quarter from Mike Prinze from Larry Whitlow, and the 1853 dime from Mark Feld.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

This coin was originally in an older NGC holder that was "pre-star" graded as a straight MS66. NGC gave it the star on regrade at the show. I submitted it thinking it had a shot at MS67, which I still think it does. I've seen a few others of these in MS67 that were pretty beat up for the grade (IMO), so I was surprised that one like this didn't do it. Will I try it again? I don't know. Maybe once, but I'm really not into shipping it back and forth, playing the game.

I've been drooling over that quarter on Whitlow's site for sometime. That is exactly the kind of toning that appeals to me, original.
