More eBay madness:

I'm always amazed by what I find on eBay, although I probably shoudn't be.

Example 1 - A totally honest seller. I am in awe.

1794 Dollar

Example 2 - A perfectly honed Morgan. Look at the detail, especially the feathers on the eagle's breast
on the reverse of this UNC BU coin:

Could this be the future plate coin for the '06 Redbook?

Unc BU Morgan

It's one thing to be off a point or two, but here we have a seller claiming an AU50 is Uncirculated. And I hit the back button whenever the seller types in all caps.

  • There's a reason for the "94". Take another look, this was not a "fine 1795 dollar", It was a 1795 dollar with a good sized hole through the coin at the date. (repair is obvious on the rev) Someone filled the hole, doing a so-so job, and since the coin was already severly damaged they went ahead and created an inexpensive hole filler out of it by "re-engraving" the "94" date.

  • if the seller is stating outright that the coin is garbage, why is the reserve so high?

or is that what the original post is about....

It always freaks me out when I see someone who sells coins professionally who doesn't seem to understand that wear on the coin means it's NOT UNCIRCULATED.....image
