I Just Bought the QX5 Microscope

After seeing Becky's (DorkGirl) images of Morgan dollars with her QX3, I just could not resist.

I went to Toys R Us this morning and they did not have any. I asked to see if other stores had them and they found several all priced from $12.98 to $29.99! image

I called all the stores starting with the cheapest. I was very dissappointed to find out they only update their inventory one time a year. image The store that had them for $12.98 had three in stock according to the computer. I would have bought all three of them at that price (two as spares). But, all the stores I called said they did not have them.

I called the 1-800 number for Toys R Us and they said none of the stores near me or in the state have them. image

I was thinking about asking Becky to pick one up for me from the place she got hers, but then I looked online. Saw them on eBay for $35.00 to $50.00. Saw them at online stores for $59.99.

Then I saw somewhere that if you use XP Windows, there are compatibility issues so that is why they upgraded to the QX5.

So, I did some searching for the QX5 and saw several locations selling it for $79.99 to $89.99. Finally saw one that I could get for $64.97. So, that is the one I ended up with.

Dang it....Went from the hopes of spending $12.98 to $64.97! Oh well, hopefully it will be well worth it. Can't tell you how many times I needed a closeup of a given area and my scanner just could not do it.

The QX5 should be here in a week or so. Looking forward to it! image

Are you sure they weren't quoting you a price for the QX3? Coincidentally enough, I went to Toysrus this morning looking for one but they didn't have one. Shipment is supposed to come tomorrow. It's $90 on their web site.

I too have XP and the QX3 works fine on both computers.

I have recently upgraded to SP2 on one system, but haven't tried the microscope on that one yet.

What does the QX5 have that the QX3 didn't? Better magnification?

I don't care what coppercoins says, I like the QX. Kinda hard to do slabs with it though unless you cut that little doodad guard off it.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Nope, it was the QX5. I have the email with the item name and number still in it. image

Re: Working with XP. Maybe the company fixed its software then. From what I read, there seemed to have been some issues. LanLord, I think there are only minor differences in the two items. The animation is suppose to be faster but I could care less about animation.

Maybe someone else can chime in on that question.....
