Collection time zone

Although most of us here are following the Gregorian calendar and are thus in 2005 (although in some cases such as mine it's debatable at best), perhaps your collection is set in a far different era.

So what century does most of your collection, on average, fall into?

(I've asked this on US forums before but as you can understand there wasn't much scope beyond 19th and 20th), hopefully here the results should be a little more varied.

  • I was amazed myself to find i had more 18th century coins than 17th century ones.

Also i axed the vast majority of my 20th century coins and entirely annihilated all but two of my 19th century ones. But recently the 20th century acquisitions have been on the increase.

Mine are currently evenly split between 19th and 20th centuries. I have a handful from earlier eras, but not any significant quantity.

Most of what I have accumulated around here are from the 20th Century.

If you just look at what I actively collect it is probably evenly split between the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
I love 19th century world coins - the designs did not have to be "dumbed down" to be able to produce mega-millions of coins
18th Century - just one word suffices - Conders!

  • Most of my collection is 19th and 20th century because of my world type set 1860 - date. I've only about a thousand 18th century pieces and around 9,000 19th and 20 century pieces.
  • Still way way more than me... wonder where you find room for that many coins? I would even know where to begin if i had that many, i'm happy with my 70 or so good coins. Plus a few hundred in the Silver Jar, and i thought i had too many... wowsers.

My Goetz collection is 19th and 20th, however, my City View talers are 16th, 17th, and 18th, and my British are 19th.

Probably about 75% is 20th century. Since most of my collection is eastern Europe, the majority of it dates post WWI, and the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire. My Canadians do date back to the mid 19th century, as does my British.

  • Okay - discounting all those Morgans sitting in Miami since I intend to sell all but a few... and discounting my named ship coins and penguins which are all 19th and 20 century (about 20 peices).
Most of my personal collection is Roman Republic and Imperial 100BC-400AD with thirty peices of ancient greece all around 200-300BC, so I would have to date my main "collection" as Roman Imperial ca 300 AD, and just for you - mine are all "hammered" peices as well. image

I have yet to delve past the 19th century image I would absolutely love to collect some ancients but unfortunately haven't found any that have that "special" effect on me and are somewhat affordable.
