Britain 1940 1d...Wybrit? Others?

Is this date really that tough in UNC to warrant what Spink lists it at?

I will wait for Wybrit to have the final say, but I can recall owning a few so I would doubt they are that scarce.

The "single exergue" above date is the harder of the two to find, and at £40 is, even for Spink, underpriced. The double exergue is the more common variety and £12 seems a reasonable price.

But wasn't the Bagwan deposed? He left behind like 100 Rolls Royces, no?

I bought a terrific bulk lot which had about 400 coins. About half of it was Brit pennies, from the 1860's up. There were two (edit- no, it was three!) blazing red UNC 1940 coins in the lot, for which I had paid a dime apiece. Easily MS65 or MS66 RD by American standards. It was an awesome lot. There were also some EF-ish Victorian young-head pennies (and I specifically remember an AU 1870), nearly a dozen 1918-KN and 1919-KN pieces, three AU-UNC 1950 pennies, and two red-brown AU-UNC 1951 pennies, plus a 1750's George II halfpenny.

Ten cents each! There were more key and semi-key pennies in that lot than common dates!

All from a Liteside dealer who just wanted to get rid of 'em. The same dealer that our own lucky Dead King Aethelred works for today.
