Jeff Proof Gang: I think you'll like this one ...

This 1960 came from a raw set of 1950-64 proof Jeffs I won on eBay (for what now seems a ridiculously low price) over two years ago. It went PR-66 at PCGS. I just love this coin ... I am gaining on my progress with my Christmas camera, I need to get rid of the glare and even out the lighting. Man, it is hard to capture toning ... This pix excites me because the colors are dead on ... at any rate, hope to be sharing more coins now that I have a good camera.

Those colors are fantastic. I've been trying to build a set of color proofs from raw coins. It's more difficult than what you would think.

What lighting set up did you use to get the colors to show so well?

Fabulous nickel What camera settings are you finding to be important for such great images of proof nickels?

As noted, still need work on the lighting to eliminate glare and more evenly light coin. That said, there was overhead tungsten lighting and a lamp off to the side with a diffused Reveal bulb. I underexposed the image to help bring out the colors and adjusted the white balance to a range suited for tungsten. Also overrode auto to make it center focused ... a lot of experimentation has been required. For my camera, at least, it appears to do best when you underexpose the image by -2 when bringing out the color ... toning is tricky, I have discovered.
