1957 PR68 CAM Franklin: "Slab and Frankie In Trouble"!

image Just picked this about for about the right price, not "Moon Money". A little on the Hazy side. I liked the Older Holder. What year was this holder produced? Can I get some thoughts on the coin. Don't have it "In Hand" yet, sellers photo's. Thanks, Lee

Might not be hazy. That could be the holder combined with light reflection.

I like that older holder too

Nice coin Lee. I believe the holder is the generation right after the old rattlers. Not sure of the years though.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • I like it. You gonna crack-dip-resubmit?

Remember what Johnny Cochran always says:

"If the haze doan fit... you must then dip."

    and they're cold.

It's hard to tell from those photos just how nice that franklin is.... but my guess is that you'll like it very much! I wouldn't see much point in cracking it out, unless you were drop dead sure it was actually dcam.... image

LeeG, nice pick up. The obverse devices clearly have CAM or DCAM frost on the devices. The mirrors on the obverse also look like they may very nice under the haze on the coins and/or the plastic of the slab.

As for the reverse, it is hard to tell from your pictures, but it appears the reverse lacks complete frost on the devices.

It has been my experience that when 1957's have nice obverse frost, the reverse most likely will not. When you receive the coin in hand, give us an update on what the coin looks like in hand.

image Finally got the coin and I have some concerns here. #1 is the front of the slab is in real bad shape and I may need to reholder it? I could try some different cleaners, but what works? If I do reholder it will PCGS use the same label? I like the older green label. This one hasn't faded to yellow yet. #2 is that Frankie has started to develop some spots or toning on the Obverse? Is this covered under some sort of PCGS grade guarantee? Here's my photos and I'd like some thoughts and recommendations on how to proceed from here. Thanks In Advance, Lee

If you send the coin in for grade guarantee or reholdering, it will come back in the new holder no matter what, unless the grade goes down and they buy the coin from you.

That slab used from 1995 through autumn of 1998. I don't know what to tell you about the coin. I'd return it to seller right away if it has a return privilige. If not...I just don't know what to tell you. Those are distracting spots and it sure looks like its only going to get worse.
