Weekend trip back to site of 1958 CAM Proof Lincoln, hoping for another score.

When I first joined the forums last August I took a trip out of town with my family. While on our weekend get away I stopped by a shop and looked at proof sets. I found a 1958 set with a very nice CAM Lincoln. I had been looking for one for years. What a great find.

Well my family and I are going to repeat our weekend getaway this weekend. I can not wait to go back to the shop and snoop some more. Hopefully I will have the same luck that I did last time. I will update next week with a report of my success or failure in "the hunt".

    Update time.

Returned from the weekend get away. Checked out the shop where I picked up the 1958 proof set with the CAM Lincoln last August. Looked through all of the 1950-70 proof and sms sets on hand and proof half singles.

Found only a 1966 SMS set with a CAM half with some haze on it, a 1963 proof CAM half and 1961 light CAM proof half. The 1961 half did not have enough contrast to interest me. The 1963 have was at the upper end of CAM, but had to many marks on in to interest me. I bought the 1966 SMS set for $9.50 and plan to give the half a bath. It may turn out ok.

1966 SMS halves have been the most difficult of the SMS halves for me to find in CAM/DCAM. The ones I have found just do not measure up to the 1965s and 1967s I have found. A couple of the 1967s I have found look just like 1968-1970 CAM/DCAM proofs and a few of the 1965s I have found have frost and mirrors far superior to any 1966 I have found.

The shop also had a nice selection of raw and slabbed early coins, including a very nice 1828 MS Bust half with slight peripheral toning. It was priced at $3,500.00 and the holder it was in had variety information written on it. Way beyond my price range so I did not take it out of the case to read the variety information up front, however it would have looked really nice in my type set.
