How to pay from .... Italy

topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭
I ran an ebay auction a couple weeks ago BEFORE I knew how to block overseas bidders.
Well, an Italian bidder won it even though my description said I only ship to US.

Now the guy wants to send me a money order that takes a secret word and has to be taken to a certain bank. (Maybe Carmine's Bank of the Alley) image

Anyhow....isn't there a source of international money order available just about anywhere?

He says he can only get MO in Euros. I am refusing to chase all over town to cash a lousy 100 bucks for a coin.

Answer here or PM please. There MUST be a hunnert US bucks in Italy.

When I lived in Italy I paid for everything via PayPal... I do know that you can get a Western Union MO in Italy though, even in the small town I lived in image
  • Dump him, report it to eBay & relist the item!

  • I take payment from International buyers in US Dollars only. They manage to get me PayPal, Money Orders or Certified Checks denominated in US Dollars. That includes Italy. CitiBank has branches in Italy and can easily produce the needed instruments.

PayPal is obviously the easiest and fastest way to get money from Italy to the US. International money orders are good, too. Does anyone know if BidPay is available in Italy? That would work nice.

I'm a bit more flexible than most, and would accept euros in cash, well concealed, as payment, rounded up to the nearest €5 with a conversion commission added.

But a MO with a secret word? Sounds fishy. Still, you don't have to ship him anything until you've got the cash in hand, so if time is not of the essence, you might want to ride along for a while, just for the experience.

Thanks folks. Have started the non pay routine. It sure DOES sound fishy.
Flaminio, I tend to agree except at my age I doubt I need any more "experiences" image

The OTHER bidders who ignored my request not to bid if they were overseas have all found ways to get the money here.

    Thanks again for the help.

I do plenty of coinbiz overseas (Italy included). Cash on smaller transactions, PayPal on everything else.

If he doesn't wanna send you US$ cash or payment via PayPal (which should convert the Euros to dollars), then fuhgeddaboutit. He should have followed instructions.

Be sure to ask him where and who in the US he wants you send his coin to. If you said you only ship to the US do it. And It is his respnsiblity to render payment in US funds not yours.
