Advice on E-bay screw up (mine)

I was (am) looking for upgrades from my pcgs FBL registry set.
A seller had a nice 65 FBL date that I wanted.
What I did not notice was that he had both an NGC and PCGS of the same date MM.
I bid and Won the NGC. (The PCGS is still open)
It is really not worth it to cross at the price I will pay.
I remember a recent thread where the winner wanted to back out and offered to pay all fees +, and the seller still wanted to Neg him as a non paying bidder. (I have perfect 100% FB)
What would be a fair amount to offer the seller (Paypal) to let me out of the commitment to Buy.
Should I explain situation to the seller and offer to buy something else at an inflated BIN price to cover his fees?
Or should I just buy it, cross it and chalk it up to experience? (I'm not set up as a seller on e-bay)
Thanks in advance for the advice.

This exact situation has happened to me. The seller let me out of the one deal, and I bought the other coin.
If it's not too much, I might even like to buy it.
I did e-mail the seller, I may still bid on the PCGS ( it still has 4 days), and try to sell the NGC enven though the price is pretty strong ($95) for the date/grade.
(And I did state in my e-mail That I would Paypal him right away if he wanted)

After thinking it over, I decided to suck it, just buy it and try to sell on BST or elsewhere, (along lines of coinhusker1's advice)
I was about to send an e-mail to the seller to ignore my request , but
Before I hit send, the seller replied not to worry, he has screwed up before himself, and he would contact an underbidder.
I offered to make up the difference between any the underbidder that buys it and my bid.
I also told him I will bid strong on the other auction. (and I will consider some of his BINs)
I am glad it worked out, but looking back, I regret bothering the seller.
Thanks to those who replied.
