Vault find story but came very close to a vault find.

A few years ago I worked for a bank that had several major operations centers all over the Midwest. One of the responsibilities I had was to quarterly visit these locations to see how things were going and basically re-affirm that we weren’t just voices on the other end of the phone line but really cared.
On my first visit to each location, they were good enough to give me a tour of the facilities and show and explain all of the process that took place there, aside from just typical banking stuff. The second center that I visited was in Omaha. While we were going though on the tour we stopped at their cash vault, first time I had really been inside a vault. I had walked by the ominous door of a couple but never really got to see what was past that. I was a little excited, but that quickly faded when I saw just exactly what was there. Metal walls with some metal workbenches and a couple of racks with some stacks of money on it and a coin sorter/counter in the corner. Pretty anti-climactic and some what of a letdown. One thing that I thought was odds was on one wall they had what looked like 8 or 10 gym lockers, you know the half height ones with a locker on the top and a locker on the bottom. So I asked the guy that was giving me the tour what they were there for. Thinking it might be something like a place for people to hang their coats so they weren’t just lying around. He tells me that is where they keep old coins and bills that are really no longer in circulation. So I asked what kind of coins. You know the old heavy silver ones. I asked him if we could look at them and he flatly turned me down by saying I really didn’t have a need to look at them. Disappointed I accepted that.
Long story short (well, shorter than it could be). Every time that I visited their location and met with the people there I always asked about the “old” coins in the vault. I think curiosity finally got the better of this guy and he finally asked me why I was so concerned about them. I told him I wasn’t really concerned as much as I was curious. I explained to him that I collected coins and I had a real interest in old coins. He sort of looked at me and smiled and then laughed. He said they weren’t sure what I had up your sleeve, put thought it was sort of odd that I always asked about them. So he asked me if I wanted to go take a look at them. I must have looked like the kid from A Christmas Story when he got is red rider bb gun because all he did was laugh and started to get up. We walked down to the vault and over to the lockers. He opens the door and there are racks after racks of coins, all dollars I might add. Some in shotgun rolls, some just in teller racks but hundreds upon hundreds of coins. He pulled 2 of the racks out and we started to look at them. To this day I couldn’t tell you a single date that I saw on any of the coins. Needless to say the adrenaline was pumping and it is all a blur. Each rack held 100 coins, I looked at most of the first rack and it was all Morgan’s the second rack was a mixture of Morgan’s and Peace dollars. Very, very exciting.
Fast forward about 2 years. I still bugged the guy to see the “old” coins every time I went out there, except with a new twist. Can I buy some from the bank? The answer was always no, but I kept trying. On my very last visit, I almost got them to say yes, but they backed out at the last minute.
Sorry this was so long winded. Just thought I would share.

That's crazy! I would think the bank would want to get rid of them, as far as banking is concerned.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

True.
I would've taken out a loan and bought it all.
