I would hit the back button. I won't bid on seller's auctions where it is painfully obvious they do not know how to properly handle coins.

I agree with K6AZ. I think there are enough coins available in the various auctions, dealer inventories, bourse floors, goodie bags and other eBay auctions that you can let this one go.

I'd say the coin is a decent EF, if a teeny bit scuffy. (Edit: on second glance, I'm not so sure.)

VF30 money is about right, I guess.

Hey, K6AZ- at least the guy is handling the coin by its edge.

Numismedia says $82 in VF and $132 in EF. I reckon VF30 money would be around a hundred bucks?

I don't think I would bid a hundred bucks on that.

  • I understand what some of you are saying about handling...etc.... but play along with me here.

What would you bid for a coin like this ? What's it worth ? (please, no "vf30" ...... etc ..... I honestly have nooo idea what those values are

    Thanks image

Just throwin' a figure to the wind, I'd say I personally would go 75-80 bucks tops, though the coin's probably worth more. It does look to have some hints of red hiding in places, and I suspect it looks better than the picture.

  • VF-20 tops! Its in real bad shape for an 1851. Too many better examples out there to bid on that coin.
Maybe you'll get $50 for it on eBay.

and bid up to $30 including delivery

  • If I had to buy it I would not pay more than $20 since it is corroded

You should be able to find a much nicer example for that money. I bought this one on eBay in February of 2004 for only $80, it's much nicer than the picture shows and an error coin to boot.

I think the value is that you have the sellers fingerprints on file image
