Copyrighted images in registry

I've been out looking at some of the registry sets and I notice that a good number of images there are from auctions sites. I've seen Teletrade, Heritage, DavidLawrence and others. Is this OK? Is this not copyright infringement?

>>>You may own the coin, but you don't own their photos.>>>
please understand copyright laws.....its all about profiteering...so you used their pics for this or that.....and the damages are????its not a big deal
now if you used their pics in a book or to make money..you better get a release which could be free or they could charge you as it all depends on a case by case basis
also ...fyi for trademarks....for trademarks to be deemed of value a company must defend them on a constant basis and the heavies do so regularly....i know a guy with a store and he always uses others trademarks in advertizing...once he gets the cease and desist letter in the mail .....he does...by then its on to a new ad campaign....so he made 5,000 of their logo....nobody cares....and its not enough to turn the lawyers on for.....but if he didnt stop when told to corps would have no choice but to sue if they want to show a track record of trademark defense...which is what they HAVE TO SHOW when they go after someone who is truely pi$$ing them off with infringement

Corportate logos and photos are two different things. If I take a photo, the image belongs to me even if I sell or allow someone to use the photo, that does not give them the right to duplicate or sell that image. Take a perfessional photo to a store that has duplication machines, and see what happens. If the photo is not abour 75 years old or older they cannot and will not make a copy for you.
Like I said in an earlier reply, ask for their permission--it is not that hard. I know I have never been turned down when asking. Many of the companies are glad to allow you to use their photo because it could be another means of advertising for them if they as for a tag line such as, "Image coutesy of ________." One of the aution houses was very specific on how the photo is used, and they let you know not to use it anywhere other than where the permission is granted.
And don't fool youself to believe that no one is using the registry to make a profit. I know it is agaist the rules but I have seen the rules broken when the Fivaz Collection was listed as a set by B&M right before the auction. I'm pretty sure I have seen coins listed on ebay pointing back to registry sets, too.
