Yours is the 1986 Topps Traded. A "Traded" set is one issued later in the year to be able to include rookies and traded players in their new uniforms. Topps Traded sets from the 1980s were available only in factory sets, not in wax packs, so this card is technically an XRC, not an RC. The 1987 Topps regular issue is one of Bonds' true rookie cards.

That is indeed a 1986 Topps Traded Barry Bonds you have there. Looks like it is a bit off-center favoring the right side.

  • Thanks for the information.

    1. I would like to sell - what could I expect ( know it's tough to say ) ?
    2. Do I need to have it graded for the best price?
    3. Is ebay the best way to sell ??

    4. Why the hell is this card bidding at 10 K on ebay right now ?? . Just curious !!

    OK, I'll do it...

Is it just my eyes or does that card look weird? The L/R centering at the top (where it says Pirates) seems to be fairly OC, while the L/R centering at the bottom (at the start of the white border) seems almost 50/50. Is it just my eyes playing tricks on me?

    Hi doggie,

    1. Barry Bonds Topps Traded cards are quite plentiful. A raw (non-graded) copy will not sell for much. It would help you to search completed listings for 1986 Topps Traded Bonds cards on eBay to get a feel for what they sell for. Since yours is unfortunately off-centered left to right, you would be in the low range. Prices seem to have closed in the $15 to $20 range.

    2. Graded cards will command the best price as long as they're in top condition. If you graded your card and it came back a PSA 8 (maybe because of the centering), then I'm not sure it would sell for much more than it would raw. You would probably save money by not grading it if that's the case. PSA 8's also seem to be going in the $15 to $20 range.

    3. eBay is the best place to sell a card such as this, but remember, you'll still be selling a card that many, many people are also selling (some in quantity). Most of the Bonds cards that sell on eBay are graded. A quick search (by category) says there are only 3 Bonds '86 Traded cards being sold now that aren't graded. Two have no bids at a penny, and one has one bid at $2.00. The two at a penny proclaim 50-50 centering (evenly centered).

    4. That card is selling for that much because people are buying the "slab" or case. The case--with Bonds, Topps, 1986, Traded, BGS, and 10 on it--is rare. The card isn't. Supposedly, a BGS 10 is arguably the highest grade that a card can get (BGS 9.5 corresponds with PSA 10). People think that if they have the highest graded Bonds "rookie" possible, they'll make a huge killing when they later try to sell (like enough to put their kids and their neighbor's kids through college). Who knows?

    Good luck!
