For the FUN at homers: How are your internet bids doing?

TommyTypeTommyType Posts: 4,586 ✭✭✭✭✭
In the Heritage auctions:

My whimpy bid I just got surpassed on a 1795 Bust Half. Gonna let it go....

But I still hold one high bid, with high hopes..... image

Anyone else out there?

    I didn't bid. I don't trust Heritage's copper photos.

I've never tried the internet bidding. Do most of the coins go to the floor bidders? I think it would be hard to win with an internet bid unless you bid crazy high.

Well, my success rate is exactly 0% at the moment. image

But watching the "live" feed, it appears that some are going to internet bidders. I have a feeling the success rate might be higher for lower end coins. (Tonight is the "big money" phase).

Added: I should point out that I'm a lower end bidder......certainly NOT bidding on anything up for auction tonight!

Boiler was my eyes. I bid $12k on a PR Morgan and it hammered at $20k.

    Rick,

    Sorry to hear that.

I received an outbid notice this morning (while I getting ready to go to the show in an hour or so) on an SLQ I have my eyes on. I bumped my bid, --- twice actually --- , and once again, I'm high bidder. This lot hits the block around 3:30 this afternoon. I plan on being there, but I'm really maxed out on this coin.

Looks like I won't be buying too many other things while I'm there !

If I loose out on this coin I'll be very surprised; in my wildest dreams I never thought it would go so high !

I'll edit this post after I get back from FUN.

Edited to add: I did win a 1928-D SLQ PCGS 66FH, lot 6676. Best 28-D I have ever seen.

I did win the lot I was the most interested in: Lot 6676, a 1928-D SLQ PCGS 66FH. Best struck 28-D I have ever seen. Anyone want to post the pickure of it ? --- I still have not been able to do this..."old dogs, new tricks ".

    Thanks.

That is a pretty coin. It sold for as much as the other 2 in that auction combined.

I love this design but my eye is always drawn to the shield not the head. The NGC 28-d in 67 (lot 6674) has a shield and breastplate nearly identical as the one you bought and it was 90% less money.

    Thanks Cohodk,

Yup I know that I could have bought the two other 28-D's that were auctioned around my coin for the same amount. Neither were as supurb as the one I bought. When I say that this is the finest 28-D I have ever seen - an ultimate full head with a full inner-shield strike, and all the shield bosses on the outer part of the shield as well as a fully stuck star to the left (facing) foot of Liberty...this coin is as perfect as I have ever hoped for ... Yes, I did bid liberally, but if you look closely, there were quite a few others who were fast on my heels. I was over-bid twice, and had to bump by bids from $9550 to 11,000 then to 12,000 and when I was out-bid when I was at 12,000 and the next bid was 13,000, I knew I had to bite the bullet and bid 14,000. So, this is as nice as what I could hope for. Its not a POP top as far as the #'s are concerned, but I'll stack this coin up against any other 28-D.

Someone mentioned a fingerprint on the reverse. I can't see it...Anyone else see it ??? !!!!!
