It is a raw 39-D QE from the Gold Rush Gallery. They told me it was VF but rough and probably would not slab. It comes from an old Dahlonega collection put together in the 1970's (before Jeremy was born) and the 1980's. It, along with two other coins in Rattlers, are on their way from Ft. Lauderdale. I will post pics when I get them. I promose that they will all be fugly for you pop top and MS-69+ collectors.

I have never actually touched a Dahlonega coin.

About 1/3 (15) of my Morgans are slabbed. That makes up about 5% of the total coins I own if you include all my foreign and US coins.

Less than 1% of my coins are slabbed. That 1% makes up about 90% of my collection's value, however.

2% of my coins are slabbed (by count) or 20% by value. Proof sets, mint sets, and U.S. Mint issues in original packaging make up about 8 % by count or 10% by value. That leaves the raw coins making about 90% by count or 70% of the value of my collection, and I do not include the many coins I've stashed away that I'm likely to spend when I find a worthy recipient (e.g. dateless Buffalo nickels, common wheat cents, or even AG Barber dimes of dates I have in all five of my Barber dime albums).

Maybe 10% of my "nice" coins are slabbed.
Perhaps 50% of them have been slabbed before, but aren't anymore.

  • Very little of my collection is slabbed!

    I would say 25% slabbed 75% raw.

When I started collecting everything was raw, but once I started collecting MS coins, got burned too many times to continue collecting raw coins, but still have many full Danscos.

100% NOT STUCK in plastic coffins

Just have a few coins in TPG service plastic at this time. Something missing for me when I look at my securely plastic-surrounded coins.

There could be nothing ugly about any gold coin from the Dahlonega mint no matter what
the condition. I can't wait to see it.
  • Counting the darkside coins, 10% or less. Lot more of them used to be slabbed, but I have solved that problem on several occasions.... image

I find the question posed to be amusing. I currently own something like 120 slabbed coins, but also some 25,000 or more circulated and uncirculated Lincoln cents including a mint sewn bag of 1973-S I bought in 1973, and lots of other assorted coins. Obviously the percentage of coins slabbed is very small, but the coins slabbed are worth lots more than my bags of cents and rolls of circulated Indian cents and buffalo nickels.

Less than 1% slabbed (3 PCGS, 1 NGC, 1 ANACS) The rest raw or in original Mint packaging.
