Snagged this on eBay for $34. I discussed this coin in another thread, I can't remember who it was that also picked up one of these older ANACS holders.
Eric: Very nice 1882 Morgan. Have you also noticed that many of the Morgans in old ANACS holders seem to have attractive blue rim-toning as your new coin does?
Is it a coincidence or could there be something in their old holders (or exposure to the atmosphere leaking into the holder over time), which causes this. Of course they could just be album toned coins that were later certified -- but there sure are a lot of them in ANACS holders...

You have a point Stuart. I have had several of these with toning like this. I also have one of my dad's here that actually has orange peripheral toning on the obverse, with the reverse being about 70% blue.
Yeah, I think you are referring to the 2 coins I picked up in old ANACS holders (1881-S and 1878-S). link I also have noticed this type of toning common in these holders and find it very attractive. I like the look of your 1882. I think you did great for $34.
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

The obverse looks nice, but no reverse image. I've never bid on one of that seller's auctions because he doesn't include the reverse. The 82-CC strike ranges from mushy to needle sharp, and I would want to see both sides before bidding.

I thought that was you who bought those two. So have you received them yet? Have pictures (especially of the 78-S)?

Actually, anablep I was referring to the following coin and several other ANACS coins that I've previously purchased mainly because they were solid for the grade, slightly PL, and also because they have that attractive blue rim-toning which I really like (see icon coin at left for reference example - not ANACS)

Stuart, that is an awesome 85-CC. Is it a 65 or 66?
Check out the 1879-S I got earlier in the month. Same type of toning in an ANACS. Its a 65. The photo doesn't do it justice but I will take new ones this weekend & post them.

Anablep: Here are a couple more pictures which better depict the fields of the coin, but don't show the mirrors as well as the previous pictures. The fields look pretty clean to me :

Eric. Is it my settings or do I need a 24 inch monitor to view your images? You post some really great images but I can never view the entire coin without scrolling.
Larry, those images were 1000x1000, so I would assume you're running a lower resolution on your monitor. One solution if you use the latest version of IEX is to set it to resize images to fit your screen.

There's no WAY that's a 63!!

<< <i>$34 well spent hotstuff. >>
Yep, since I'm now on a low budget I have to stick with cheap coins.
<< <i>Thanks Susan. Now everyone will probably be bidding on these, and I won't get any more sweet deals on them! >>
Well, you won't have to worry about me for a while...the coin budget is shot and the business is really slow this time of year!
