No, but then again, eBay is not a monopoly. There's plenty of other auction venues out there just waiting to take over once eBay shoots itself in the foot sufficiently. I don't know if these latest fee increases will do it, but it's only a matter of time...
How dare they raise their fees! (BTW, "rape" seems a little strong)
I mean, this is America, right? We can all run over to Yahoo. No one is forcing us to do anything, right?
It's sort of humorous. Every time there is a fee change of any kind, I hear the infamous "this is the end of eBay" chant. Meantime, I watch their listings count grow and grow and grow...
Maybe this time it will be different? Only time will tell.

Yes, by itself, "rape" is MORE than a little strong. That's why I qualified it with "financially," which changes context. This seems like a bend-over-and-take-it move to the stores if you ask me.

Hey, you'll get no complaints out of me. I've been a happy EBAY shareholder since the 1990s.
With the boomers about to retire into an atmosphere of lowered social security, no savings, a busted real estate bubble, and a melting dollar, eBay will soon have to make do on only about 87 trillion new listings every day.
Whatever will they do? Raise fees even more? Yeh, probly.
On the bright side, maybe "L@@K" will be replaced at long last.
With.... "H@LP"
My EBay Store/Auctions
These "squacking" Sellers should open up a coin shop in their hometown and pay rent, utilities and overhead and see how much it costs.
Just my opinion on those "wannabe" dealers that want to squeek every penny out of every sale and complain when someone with "actual" overhead makes a bit of money for their shareholders.

Yeah, making a profit is just so un-American. Go back to Cuba, ya commie.
(Do I need to add a so that everyone recognizes sarcasm?)
However, I am worried that they are pushing it a bit too far - as noted, there are other options, it's just that they don't have as many "buying eyes" as eBay does..at least not yet. As far as paying for a "brick & mortar" store and hanging a shingle, it's getting to the point that the tax benefits of such a shop would probably be close to the expenses incurred. I was just checking my account with eBay, and I was amazed how they nickel & dime you until it's a substantial amount of money. I can only imagine what it will be with the new fees. Also, if you accept Paypal (and I'm convinced it hurts bidding if you don't) the fees are even higher, and they go to eBay also. I was just figuring the cost of listing an item with a value of $650, and if purchased thru paypal, the total listing, final value and paypal fees are easily in the neighborhood of $35-40. That's a big chunk of potential profit.
Finally, I'm worried about the states finally taking action on all the sales tax that they are losing, and I think that this may ultimately be a bigger pitfall for eBay than raising the fees. I think I'll sell those shares real soon, and pocket my profit!
every treasure on Earth
to be young at heart?
And as rich as you are,
it's much better by far,
to be young at heart!
Just head over to Amazon, Yahoo, etc.....sell coins until your hearts content (at 40% of market value!)
Show those overpaid "corporate executives" at eBay who's in charge!
