Whoa! I struck it big at the bank. Okay, not really...

I happened into a nice little surprise. I waited in a long bank line (and I debated whether I should have left when I saw the line) and finally made it to a teller I've done business with many times before. She goes, "Hey, do you want some silver halves?" I said, "Sure, I'll buy all you got." I thought that maybe she was mistaken, but she came out with a full roll's worth of 40% silver (avg circ to AU++). I was pleasantly surprised and paid the $10 knowing that I'm ahead by maybe $2. I just had to wonder if she knew those halves had silver in them how come they were still available (they weren't in her drawer, but "in the back")? Certainly the other tellers must have known. The funny thing is that I tried searching $100 worth of bank-rolled halves and found a single 40% (which I gave away for 50 cents)....quite disappointing.

  • Ah, I had a similar score back when I was 16. I bought three rolls, and when I got home, they were all 40% silver in AU. Of course being the proud young numismatist that I was, I put them all in carboard flips, and stored them in a binder. Realizing that there were desirable coins to be bought, I sold almost every single one last year for $0.85 ea. to the local coin shop. So I'd say you are ahead by about $6-8 given today's silver price image

    Nice score PreThen.

My latest caper at the bank landed me a $500.00 box of 1999-D's. Dang! Some good stuff but not really any keepers!

I only hope that this does not happen again..........
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

I sold the roll today to someone who likes that type of stuff for $15.00. I guess a 50% profit for one day's work isn't too shabby.
