Go Ahead And Grade This Bust Half..*Grade and my observations posted top of thread*

It has FULL field luster that of course the scan doesn't show.
The scan I presented is a good representation of the coin, and it has more natural color when tilted in the light.
As I said it has full field luster. My first thought when seeing this coin was why did it receive the lower grade from PCGS?
There is a bit of light rub on the hair over ear, the cap, and tough to tell on that top curl that is so dirty.
Rev right wing, (viewers left) has a tough of rub, and the eagles talons.
My guess is they might have net graded it for the darker areas on the obverse, as well as right below the jaw line there
is a scrape (kind of a scratch but thicker, and deeper) that goes into the coin, you can see in the image some.
There is also a bit of a small lamination in left field that you also can just barely see in the image.
I happen to like these type of things since they are mint-made and I don't think they netted it for this.
I do believe they were pretty tough on this coin, perhaps au53-55 would have been more in line
in my opinion.
I've seen many coins like this in mint-state
holders. But it's all good to me.
Thanks for the replies!

If no friction, MS63
Even with the friction, the coin may still receive a market grade of MS63.

<< <i>Claws and bust line did you in, I think >>
I forgot to mention the wear in the bust-line as well. I did not submit this coin so I'm fine with the grade.
It still didn't sell for 50 money.... but if it was graded higher it would have cost more.
I'm really not much into grades these days. And usually don't even post a grade when sharing.
I just thought this one might be interesting to ask for opinions.
Thanks for your input.

damn it.

if that is so, then au-50 is a moronic grade. in fact, any grade below au-58 makes no sense w/ FULL field luster.
are you SURE the luster in the fields is FULL & unbroken??? if so, you got screwed on the grade, & you should LOUDLY complain.
K S
Somehow, I don't think it was STMAN who got "screwed" on the grade... I'll bet he bought it already in the holder, and now owns a very PQ coin, ultra conservatively graded in the holder.
it was the submitter who got screwed. Coins like this are why I never submit to pcgs, I'd rather buy them after someone else had them holdered: they pay the fee, they pay the shipping, they take the hit on the grade, and then I get a nice coin at a favorable price. Nice score, stman.

DUDE, yes I stated full field luster. Do you not believe me?
If you had read what I wrote you would have seen that I did NOT submit this coin or have I ever submitted a coin.
BTW, I've been "screwed" enough times in my life to know what it feels like. Well I used to know as I got kinda numb to the feeling after a while. I also stated they might have given the coin a net grade for a couple reasons I noticed in my evaluation of the piece,
which was quite extensive.
Edit to add... I still had to pay much more than au50 price so grade is kinda moot. Just thought it would be interesting to get other views on the coin. And comments like I've been screwed is one of the reasons I normally don't even post grades anymore as they aren't important to me.
Keep on keepin on DUDE!!
What I have seen, This is what most AU50's look like.
STMAN,you got a swell deal on that one.
i did make a wrong assumption though, as baley pointed out, should of said the the SUBMITTER got screwed if the coin was undergraded by 8 points, but i assumed you were the submitter.

I'd take that coin any day of the week!
