Beltran = Bonilla?

Does anyone agree with ESPN's suggestion that Beltran might be the next Bobby Bonilla?

    Definitely not, but I also don't see the "new Mets" as a World Series contender.

  • The " New Mets " aren't quite done my friend.
  • being a mets fan i would hope that beltran isnt the next bonilla - and hopefully with the added talent they will atleast contend image

    delgado will be a met by monday. how they can not be considered a contender i have no idea. david wright is a young awesome player same with reyes if stays healthy. matsui playing 2nd base this year and now is more accoustom to mlb. beltran is an awesome player. over 100 hr's and over 100 sb's last 4 years. that is very impressive number all these guys i just mentioned are 28 and younger. they are the core to buikd around. our pitching staff is solid. last year it sucked. i mean ginter was in our rotation.
    Plain and simple we are contenders.

    Spending money doesn't equal contention. Remember the Orioles a few years ago spending a bazillion dollars, and they still finished fourth?

    I'd suspect there is a good reason the BoSox didn't match the Met's offer to Pedro, and he'll visit the disabled list a couple times this year...not wishing ill will on the guy, but I see a major breakdown coming his way.

    The team is going to have no chemistry with so many new names, with so many big dollar contracts, and so many egos running rampant in the locker room, and a new manager to boot?

    They'll underacheive (again) and finish with 80-85 wins.

    AXTELL going from 71 and 69 wins to what you say is not underacheiving by any means? that would put us in the race as contenders.

    I do. Their pitching staff potentially could be one of the best in the NL, and if they add Delgado - look out. The sleeper is David Wright - along with Reyes (if healthy) and Matsui they form a nice young infield. I see the Mets as potential World Series opponents for us. image

  • If the Mets can find some middle relief they will be in good shape, problem is it's tough to find good quality guys in the pen nowadays

    I don't think Bonilla was ever thought to be in the same class as a Beltran. He was a solid performer and a positive guy in the clubhouse who was viewed as a leader. Raw talent wise - I think there is a difference. I understand the comparison, but only think it applies if Beltran is a total "bust" - like Bonilla turned out to be. That would indeed be another kick in the pelotas!

    Therefore Bonilla? = Beltran. And since we're talking Bobby Bo, I have about 300 mint 86DR's of Bobby I'll sell real cheap. I mean if Bobby is equal to Beltran, as stated in the mathematical proof above, why not take the plunge? The only thing I can't supply are the question marks.
