Question about GSA CC in case with 1986 ANACS photocert

Amateur with a question

I bought a lot of 5 GSAs. Received today.

the 1884 CC has a photocert graded MS63/65, with a matching serial number
sticker on the GSA housing.

I plan to resell, since that date is a duplicate. My questions is about the grade
Does the MS63/65 mean 63 for the obv, 65 for the back?

Do the grades tend to be more liberal or conservative then todays standards

thanks in advance

dave

  • Interesting, do you have pictures? I didn't know that ANACS certified those still in the GSA holders back then. (Beat NGC by years.) And yes you are correct about the MS-63/MS-65 it is a seperate grading of the obverse and the reverse.

Well look at the coin and see if you agree with the grades.
  • Here's a couple of pics of my Anacs graded GSA. I believe this coin is accurately graded at MS64

It's real close. After I posted the above, I did a stare and compare to a NGC GSA 1883cc ms65 that I have and it looks like it could make the grade. It's on the high end of the 64 scale to me.
I was thinking back to when I bought this coin off Ebay and the reason I did was for the Anacs certification. Something neat to have I guess...
Yes, they were way ahead of NGC and the grading of these without cracking them out of the holder..

Even if it is a MS65 I would leave it in the GSA holder. The original GSA holder with the matching ANACS certificate is Really cool and highly collectable in itself.image
