Too Expensive or No? Worth Buying? (merc dime book)

Here's an auction for the guide to mercury dimes. How is it and if it's worth getting, is this a fair price? thanks

Check Brooklyn Gallery, I just got one from them for about $29.

The book is perhaps a bit basic, but I think it's about the only book on Mercuries out there (is there a new one focusing on varities that just came out?).

I'm not sure if David Lange is planning on a second edition. I asked across the street, and while he didn't answer, a board member did, who said that Lange had answered an earlier question by saying "there wasn't enough interest for a second edition."

No brainer. Buy the book. You will enjoy the coins three times as much with the authoritative reference in hand.
  • DaveG...I see the one you are referring to. Do you think they have several copies or have they neglected to update their inventory?

Brooklyn Gallery is a volume buyer and they're pretty good about updating their website, from what I've seen, so I'd say they still have the books in inventory.

  • $29 or$39-if you learn one fact that saves you 10x the book cost, the price is not as important as the knowledge. My experience is that there is no such thing as an expensive numismatic book. The larger shows that usually have 2 or 3 book dealers is a gold mine of knowledge at a cheap price.
  • I have a Lange book and would recommend you buy one. I've met the guy, he is often at the NGC booth as shows. He is very knowledgable and a nice guy to boot, he was always willing to help me.
  • sounds great, ill have to pick one up soon
  • I have this book... it's alright... there was some good information... but the date-by-date analysis really isn't that useful... it'll tell you some of the different minor varities for each date... but, only the '45 Micro-S and the 42/41 and 42/41-D varieties bring any premium...

I talked to David a little less than a year ago at a small local show in Sarasota, and he said he was talking to his publishers about a second edition... don't know if anything ever happened, probally not a lot of interest... as I said, there are few varities that bring any premium, so, unless you like searching for varities for varities sake... it's not like Bust Coins where there's so many different varieties, and many are in demand...
