Branca, Luochious (sp?), Fogel share holders?!

I was just wondering... You think these big players have a holding in collectors Universe? Do you think its possible some of these crazy priced cards are sold back and forth through auctions at rediculous prices for headlines? How hard would it be to manipulate the market if you and a few friends had a few million to play with? For example... I know through ebay a palmer4555 or something like that essentially wins nearly every 52 topps sain error cards that come up. In any condition. Does anybody know of someone hoarding or trying to corner the market for a particular card? Seems like it may be kinda cool to have 50 of the same 33 sport king card and push it into "short supply". You think this is possible? Any examples?

Been thinkin lately...

He'll never be able to do it, but there was (maybe still is) an Ebay bidder "godswork" who was buying all the PSA 8 & 9 Rickey Henderson RC's on Ebay (and 80's sets and wax too, if I recall). He must have hundreds of them by now.

I know a guy who has hoarded all the 1970 Topps Cloth Nolan Ryans. image

Seriously, I heard that Andre Dawson was infatuated with his 1993 Finest Refractor and was attempting to buy all 240 of them. It was taken as fact because for a while Beckett considered it a short print in their price guide because he had so many.

I recall afew months ago the "primeagle" was buying every 1961 Topps Ralph Houk in PSA 8 that came along.

Is he still at it? For a while, he singlehandedly drove the price of a PSA 9 Henderson RC to over $300, when the going price was closer to $250. It was okay by me, cause I sold him one.

Never knew that story about The Hawk - very interesting. With some of the modern short prints, I guess it would be possible to buy almost all of a certain card of yourself, but I can't believe any player would care that much.

He bid $450 for mine but lost out at $455. My guess is the winner was sick of being outbid by him. Of all the ebay buyers, I'd love to find out more about this guy. I believe he still does Rickey in 8/9/10. Maybe I'll send him an email and see what's up with the guy.

I don't think this guy is trying to corner markets on Henderson cards........way, way, way to many out there.

If you have a few million to play with, hopefully tyou have better things to do than attempt to manipulate the prices of cards.
  • well, i guarantee these big players have millions, and they are blowing tons on cards. I wouldn't, but at the same time it would be kinda cool to have a hundred or so 52 mantles, and just hold em. you know, all grades, buy them all. just a thought. of course i don't have millions...yet image

yes, a bought a couple Rickey's off me. The only reason I graded them was for him to go nuts bidding. He is a Pastor, that is why he is "godswork". Seems like a nice guy, just madly in love with Rickey...not that there's anything wrong with thatimage
