Should I Ask For A Refund?

Ok I bought a box of 1989 Fleer baseball waxbox which I thought contained "error" cards from that run.

Well on the 3rd pack I opend, I pulled the corrected version of the Billy Ripken FF card...black box.

Obviously, this is not an error version waxbox.

But then again I re-read the auction description, and all it really says is chance of pulling a "variation" of the Billy Ripken card...so maybe I shouldn't ask for a refund, because the black box version is technically a variation.

  • The devil is in the details... I doubt the seller knows what is in it print run wise.

That sucks. I am sure the box didn't set you back much. The seller told the truth, it was just how you interpreted it. I would say no dice. A few years back those boxes were selling for 50 bucks.

    I wouldn't bother.
  • You have to remember the Ripken was printed very early in the print run. Some of the other errors like Mike Heath and Tom Brookens may be in the box. There are no indications on the boxes as to what print run it is. So it is a crap shoot.

I just remembered something. Isn't the "black box" version the rarest of them all? It's my understanding that there were several attempts to cover up the offending text in preceeding print runs and the black box was simply a temporary, stop gap solution.
  • The white out version is the rarest.

  • There are i believe 4 variations of the card. The one with the profanity. Then it was whited out. Then it was scribbled over with a marking pen. And finally the black square.
