N.Y media getting to the Big unit already

Comments

  • I still don't know what randy Johnson was thinking coming to the Yamkees. He will be eaten up alive. The reason he had such a great season was because he was on a bad team that got little attention other than trade talks about him. He will be asked 20 times about every single mistake he makes. He's not going to have one of his better seasons.

Yeah, he'd never won a Cy Young award before or been the most dominant pitcher in the league, except when no one was paying attention to him.

I must admit, the Big Unit lived up to his nickname because he came off looking like a "Big Johnson" after his childish tirade

That was an idiotic response oxtail. I was referring to last season which may have been his best season. Had he been on the Yankees last season, they would have continuously been asking the same questions like, how long do you think this will last? Do you think you can throw another perfect game? What do you think your chances for another Cy Young are?

People on a 111 loss team get a lot less attention than people on a 100 win team. Try sending out for a new brain oxtail, it may help.

Media has nothing to do with it. Johnson has been and always will be the Big Jerk. I remember when the Yankees mainly consisted of quality folks who played hard and were proud to be yankees. Even as a kid in the 50's if you weren't a yankee fan, you admired how they played. This is what has been gone from the yanks the last few years and Johnson is just more proof of it.

I saw the video and really didn't think there was much to it. I'd imagine anyone would get tired of being chased by cameras every day.

so has anyone heard, is he going to SHAVE??? or did he get something in his contract stating he didn't have to??image He ought to look pretty funny with no facial hair.
  • Look - you guys bagging on 'da Big Unit just better GET OUTTA MY FACE.....AND DON'T TALK BACK TO ME.....DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?

I'm not sure these off-season acquisitions made the Yanks any better than what they were.

Dunno I didn't see the video I heard Mike and Mike talking about seeing him for the first time clean shaven. Mike and Mike are on espn radio in the a.m. He is about the ugliest guy I've ever seen, but you have to love his mullet.

  • The Yankee facial hair rule about facial hair is no beards. Steroid man Giambi just decided to shave everything off when he signed. As a Yankee you are allowed as much as a horse shoe moustache like Don Mattingly had. Speaking of Don Mattingly, the real question should be what will happen to Randy's Mullet. If I am not mistaken, the Yankee hair rule is no hair lower than the ears. If any of you are as old as I am, you may recall that during mr Steinbrenner's suspension for the Howard Spria and Dave Winfield Fiasco, his hair rules were still in place and Don Mattingly was suspended ubtil he cut it off. There was big fanfare that Don Mattingly auctioned off the clippings and they were bought for $5000 by a New York police officer that I once worked with. I have not spoken to him in years since we no longer work in the same branch of law enforcement, so I do not know what he did with the hair after.

Well of course a team that loses 111 times is going to get a lot less attention than a 100 win one...who ever disputed that fact? What I was referring to was he had much better seasons when his team wasn't losing 100 games.

How can you possibly say last year was his best season? You are the one who needs a new brain...let's look at some little things called 'facts':

Last year he went 16-14 (the losses he can't really help, when his team gives no run support), has a 2.60 ERA and 290 K's and 44 BB's. Solid year, but it's nowhere near his 'best' season.

    2002: 24-5, 2.32 ERA, 334 K's, 71 BBs.
    2001: 21-6, 2.49 ERA, 372 K's, 71 BBs.
    2000: 19-7, 2.64 ERA, 347 K's, 76 BBs.
    1997: 20-4, 2.28 ERA, 291 K's, 77 BBs.
    1995: 18-2, 2.48 ERA, 294 K's, 65 BBs.

But yeah, you know what, you're right, last year was his BEST year ever!

Talk about moronic....you, sir, are the moron.

edit: hmm a january 2005 join date and already attempting to insult people here because they don't agree with your point of view (which in this case is WRONG) and your spelling is just plain awful. It's Axtell, dippy!

  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Good points, Axtell - and when talking about his strikeout numbers in particular, you could argue that it will be tough for him to come close to those again in the AL, not having pitchers to ring up anymore. He's going to be good, very good actually, but you can't ignore he is 42 and on the downside of his career. The Yankees were desperate for a lefty to attempt to shut down the Red Sox, so they overpaid for him.

  • Oxtail you are a moron true in true. You also know nothing about baseball. A team with 111 losses usually commits errors. The manager usually isn't that great. The catcher usually doesn't call the right pitches. Your home stadium is probably empty and whoever does show up is probably booing you or expecting you to lose. You probably have little faith in your fielders so it's hard to focus on your pitches because you as Randy Johnson are full of yourself, so when your fielders make a mistake you feel it's against you not against your team. Put that with being 42 and your body is not 100% as when you were 30. Now, with all those obstacles, Randy Johnson threw a PERFECT game. I don't think he ever had a better game. He still got 290 strikeouts
When you are on the better teams he was on previously, you have room for error. You know if you make a mistake, your back is covered, so you relax and play your best. As anti social and as obnoxious as you sound, it seems apparent to me you have never had very many close friends, or people you trusted. Maybe you were abused. Who knows? Who cares? The fact is you haven't got a clue.

Finally, I respond to idiots that way when they act like obnoxious idiots. I also called you oxtail on purpose because you have all the charm of an oxtail. Now we can end this immature idiocy right here right now, or continue it. Are you prepared to be a man, or would you rather be a childish boy?

These types of remarks have no place on a forum...and who is the immature idiot here? You, who rants like a madman, makes completely irrational statements and assumptions ('never had very many close friends'), and in general acts like a lunatic, or me, who backed up my statement which simply stated that RJs best year wasn't last year? Hmmm.

Is being wrong that important, that big of a deal to you? Oh by the way, the perfect game in and of itself is impressive, it also is a great deal of luck. There are many, many great pitchers who've never had a no hitter, let alone a perfect game.

I disagreed with you (as anyone who has a grasp on reality would) that RJs had better years than last years...then you come at me with attempted insults and snide remarks? You sure are a tough guy there behind your monitor, aren't you?

You state emphatically that last year was his best year...but when statistical FACTS are presented that contradict that, you being to make excuses about 'blah blah blah his team sucked' 'blah blah blah his team mad errors and it was harder to focus' 'blah blah blah he's 42'.

No one is taking away from the fact he had a tremendous year last year...but to call it his best is simply ludicrous. Why was it his best year? Because he threw a perfect game? Wait, unless he struck out 27 men (he didn't), wouldn't it have involved that same crappy team who makes all those errors? That same sucky catcher who can't call a game? And the same sucky manager who shouldn't be in the majors?

You bring up no facts. You state your OPINION. And basing it on facts, your opinion that last year was his best year ever is wrong. Sorry.

Look if you want to have a rational debate on why you think last year was his best year, bring facts, not your nonsensical, sixth grade education and schoolyard 'insults'; they only make you more ridiculous than you already do. Do like kuhlman says....take a step back, breathe, relax, and remember, this is just a message board to have fun, not to make ridiculous threats to someone.

Go away little man, try your intimidation tactics elsewhere.
  • Oxtail, you just proved my point. You will never understand. "nonsensical" I'm still laughing at that one. You've been lsitening to George Bush a little too much. Maybe you should get a higher than 6th grade education. I'm not wasting my time on you.

Kuhlman. Anti gay remarks, anti race, or anti nationality remarks that are usually saved for a klan meeting don't belong here. I will blow up on anyone that makes bigoted remarks. I have no problems with people, except when they make bigoted or obnoxious remarks. I've seen too many horrible things happen to people because they weren't with the status quo, so if I get a bit crazy over it, that is why.

AXTELL is a good poster i hope you guys let it go.. football this weekend should be fun. lets talk trash about the games and leave the political bullsh$t behind!

I am not into personal attack or insults, but I like talking baseball. Please take my comments on RJ in the spirit of a good baseball debate.

Considering what RJ had to work with last year, he had a tremendous season. Sure, there were years in which he had better numbers, but he also had a better team around him. Just considering the context that RJ was in, last season could very well have been his best pitching year. Had his team been just a .500 ball club, RJ could have easily gotten over 20 wins.

I like it when a player is over 40 and they still compete at the elite level. Anti-aging technology is moving at an exponential pace, so I think we will be seeing more 40+ athletes competing at a high level. We all know that RJ takes care of himself, so does Rickey Henderson, Julio Franco, etc. It is not the skills of an athlete that fade away, just his physical capabilities (what good is skill if the body cannot follow the mind). If aging could be stabilized, there is no reason why a 40+ old athlete can't be better.

<< <i>You've been lsitening to George Bush a little too much. Maybe you should get a higher than 6th grade education. I'm not wasting my time on you. >>

If you knew anything, you would know I only listen to Bush to mock him...I think you should be the one looking to enhance your eductation. Oh, you aren't wasting your time on me? What would you call the time you've posted in response to me?

    Moron.

edit: Geist, I never once tried to take away from his season last year. He had a remarkable season, considering that the team around him was so poor. My point of contention with Mr. Hate (aka Iseeyou) is that his trying repeatedly to say it was RJs best year EVER. When statistics are brought into it (removing the emotion and opinion) and that fact is shown, he becomes angry like a child who's had his toys taken away.

Geist. It is great to see someone like you that is not an obnoxious idiot. You actually understood what someone meant without needing a translation. That seems to be a rarity here.

Must suck to see yourself in the mirror every morning and see that obnoxious idiot you refer to.

So as not to be harassed by your posts and obvious lack of intellect, I'll be ignoring you from here on out. Your posts bring no information, just foaming at the mouth for anyone who disagrees with you.
